Privacy policy

We keep this simple: we collect as little personal data as we can, we use it only for the reasons set out below, and we never sell it. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the rights you have over it.

Who we are

Built By Unicorns Ltd is a software, cloud and AI development company registered in England & Wales. We are the data controller for the personal data collected through this website (www.builtbyunicorns.co.uk).

If you have any questions about this policy or how we handle your data, email us and a human will reply.

What we collect

We only collect personal data you choose to give us, plus some standard analytics about how the site is used:

  • Contact form: your name, email address, company and message, submitted via Netlify Forms.
  • Resource downloads: your name, email address and company, so we can send you the resource you asked for.
  • Bookings: if you book a call, your name, email address and any notes you add are handled by Cal.com, our scheduling provider.
  • Analytics and advertising: we use Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics and Google Ads, plus the Meta Pixel, to understand how visitors use the site and whether our advertising works. These tools can collect information such as pages visited, approximate location and device type. They only store or read anything on your device once you agree via the cookie banner — see Cookies.
  • Email: when we email you, we use Resend (for automated emails, such as sending a resource you requested) and Zoho Mail (for our day-to-day inbox).

Why we process it

Under UK data protection law we need a lawful basis for everything we do with your data. Ours are:

  • Consent: when you ask us to send you a resource or agree to receive marketing emails. You can withdraw consent at any time.
  • Legitimate interest: when we respond to your enquiries, and when we use analytics to understand and improve the site.

What we do with it

We use your data to respond to your enquiries, deliver the resources you request, and improve the website. That's it. We never sell your data, and we don't share it with anyone except the service providers listed below who help us run the site.

Who we share it with

We use a small number of trusted third parties to run this website. Each one processes data on our behalf:

  • Netlify — website hosting and form handling
  • Google — Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics
  • Meta — Meta Pixel for advertising measurement
  • Cal.com — call booking and scheduling
  • Resend — transactional email delivery
  • Zoho — business email

Some of these providers process data outside the UK. Where they do, the transfer is protected by appropriate safeguards, such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or an adequacy decision.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiry data for as long as we need it to handle your enquiry and any follow-up, then delete it. Analytics data is retained according to each provider's default retention settings. If you'd like us to delete your data sooner, just ask.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Have inaccurate data corrected
  • Have your data erased
  • Restrict how we process your data
  • Object to our processing of your data
  • Receive your data in a portable format

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@builtbyunicorns.co.uk. If you're not happy with how we've handled your data, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Cookies

When you first visit, a banner asks what you're happy with. Nothing beyond the essentials runs until you choose, and choosing "Reject all" is one click — the same as accepting. There are three categories:

  • Essential — needed for the site to work, including remembering your cookie choice itself and your light/dark theme. Always on, and they carry no tracking data.
  • Analytics — Google Analytics, so we can see which pages are useful and where people give up. Off until you agree.
  • Marketing— the Meta Pixel and Google Ads, used to measure whether our advertising works. Off until you agree. The Meta Pixel isn't loaded at all without your consent.

You can change your mind whenever you like via Cookie settingsat the bottom of any page. We'll ask again after about six months either way. You can also control or delete cookies through your browser settings — most browsers let you block them entirely or clear them when you close the window. Refusing analytics and marketing cookies doesn't affect your use of the site.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle personal data, we'll update this page and revise the date at the top. Significant changes will be flagged clearly on the site.
